http://www.kongernesjelling.dk/sw253.asp Christoffer 1. regeringstid blev en lang kamp med broren Abels slæ gt, som fø lte, at Christoffer havde frarø vet dem tronen. Og som en udlø ber af dette lå kongen ligeledes i en bitter strid med æ rkebiskop Jakob Erlandsen. Æ rkebiskoppen var af Hvide-slæ gten, der havde væ ret tilhæ ngere af Abel, og gjorde derfor sit yderste for at bekæ mpe Christoffer. Dette kom bl.a. til udtryk, da han næ gtede at krone Christoffers 5-å rige sø n Erik til medkonge og tronfø lger. Og forholdet blev bestemt ikke bedre af, at Christoffer forlangte, at kirken skulle stille med mæ nd og midler til kampen mod Abel-slæ gten. Konflikten mundede ud i, at æ rkebiskoppen i 1259 på ydmygende vis blev fæ ngslet ifø rt ikke-kirkelige klæ der og en hue af ræ vehaler. Christoffer stod efter al sandsynlighed bag dette, og resultatet blev, at de Jakob Erlandsen tro kirkestifter - Lund og Roskilde - bandlyste <sw201.asp> kongen. Sagen blev indbragt for Pavens domstol, hvor den 15 å r senere afgjor
t til kongemagtens fordel. I mellemtiden var Christoffer for læ ngst dø d.
